A Better and Less Expensive Blade

***Please take a look at the update below. A new Ebay dealers link is posted 9/19/14

I am so happy! I've been using a blade holder I purchased from Ebay for several weeks but didn't want to share this news until I used it for several weeks. I decided to buy this after going through 4, yes, 4 expensive Silhouette Ratchet blades in a short time. I probably used 4 blades in a little over a month. Two of the Silhouette Ratchet blades were destroyed after hubby and I made attempts to clean out the blade housing. As much as I love my Silhouette cutting machines I can not say the same for the faulty and expensive ratchet blades. The Silhouette Ratchet blades had become a sore spot with me. They are expensive, should be much easier to clean, and should not dull as quickly as they have dulled.

When looking around for other blades I found the Ebay dealer who sold the CB09 blade holders. The blade replacements come out to only $2.83 per blade. When I first started using the blade holder I wasn't too pleased, but this was my lack of knowledge.  I spoke to my friend Kim from Scraps of Faith. She told me she loved her blade holder and blades. She was beyond frustrated with the Silhouette Ratchet blades and said she is so happy with the CB09 and will never go back to the faulty and expensive ratchet blades. Kim told me she set it to double cut and no matter what the setting she was able to get great cuts. She also told me she never changed her settings. So, I set up a CB09 blade setting of Speed- 4, Thickness - 32, and Blade - 5 and Double Cut with only exposing a rather small amount of the blade. If you purchase these blades use some scrap paper to make some test cuts to get your blade just the way you want it.

I used the above blade settings because I use fairly heavy card stock most of the time. I have cut all sorts of card stock weights with these settings. It's worked out wonderfully! I did change the blade depth and settings when I used the 60 degree blade to cut some light weight chipboard. I exposed more of the blade by turning the black knob at the top of the CB09 blade holder to a depth slightly deeper than the depth of the chipboard I slowed the speed down to 1, the blade depth to 10, and the thickness to 33 and of course, double cut. This chipboard was heavier than a cereal box weight. The results were impressive with a nice clean cut.

At first, I thought I made a big mistake purchasing the CB09. I actually purchased two of them. One to hold the 45 degree blade and one to hold the 60 degree blade. I opened the first holder and discovered it didn't fit nicely into the blade holder housing. I grabbed some sanding paper and gently sanded the area which fits into the blade holder housing. After a little sanding I got it to fit perfectly into the slot. Recently, I used the 60 degree blade and this blade holder fit without any sanding.

If it wasn't for my friend Kim I would have given up on this wonderful blade holder. I told her when I first used it the blade did a great job, but after making some adjustments to the blade settings it was awful! She told me she never changed her blade settings and just kept it on double cut. I thought, oh my, I have to set everything to double cut. Well, at the cost of the 4 Silhouette ratchet blades gone bad I would either have to give up using my cutting machine or try the CB09 holder again. Guess what? I did what Kim asked me to try and I'm in love with these blade holders. I've cut and cut and cut some more. Every time I get beautiful, clean cuts. The intricate lace like cuts are fabulous! It's so worth the extra time it takes to set it to double cut.

The new link I shared below is a blade holder with 10 blades are $28.00. The 60 degree blade is supposed to be for more intricate cuts, but honestly, the 45 degree blade did just fine.If you buy from this seller you can purchase replacement blades at 10 for &17.00. This only comes out to $1.70 per blade. What a bargain! Oh, It also includes FREE SHIPPING and a 30 day money back guarantee.

Here is a link to the Ebay dealer where you can purchase yours: UPDATED LINK9/19/14 CB09 Blade Holder and Blades from Ebay, Joycelijane has a 100% positive feedback. I ordered from her, and received my blades faster than I thought. I hope everyone who makes this purchase loves this blade holder and blades as much as I do.

Please make sure to check out Gayle blog Ligaya's Creativity Zone to learn even more about these wonderful blade holders. She has a wonderful in depth, fully detailed blog about these blade holders.

  1. I have been debating over purchasing a non-silhouette blade for months.

Thanks for reporting your results and giving me confidence to move forward!

  2. wow - this is great information you've shared. I haven't had too many issues with my blades but my very first one (from the box) didn't seem to have lasted too long and I hadn't made too many cuts. This is really something to consider as a less expensive alternative. Thanks You!

  3. Thanks for this info as I've all but abandoned my Silhouette because I cannot get a good cut. Will definitely think about purchasing one of these..x

    1. If you're having trouble with the blade that came with the machine let Silhouette know and they will send you a new one. Some of the blades that shipped with machines are faulty. I had this problem and was very frustrated. I had actually gone out and bought a new blade because I had heard that it could be possible that the blade was bad and had great results with the new blade. I'm too busy having fun with my Silhouette to call and complain about the faulty blade, but I had heard that they are very good about replacing them! I hope this helps!

  4. I have followed your blog for ages and after reading your blog post today went ahead and ordered the 45 degree blade holder and 2 packs of 6 blades, so this should last me a while. Also now I will feel free to cut to my hearts content.

I recently bought a Cricut mat, I wonder if this will work with these new blades. Which mat do you use?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hello everyone, thank you for visiting and leaving a comment.

Kathy, I use the Cricut cutting mats and the Eclipse cutting mats. I first used the Eclipse and thought I was buying the same thing when I purchased the Cricut cutting mats. Both the Eclipse and the Cricut mats are sturdier than the current Silhouette cutting mats and they are less expensive. I will order the Eclipse cutting mats the next time I re-order cutting mats. I find them to be even more durable than the Cricut. Either the Cricut or Eclipse are great but the Silhouette mat is out. They are too costly and don't last.

    1. Also the eclips mat's grid is more like the silhouette grid. Matches almost to perfection.

    2. Can you use the different mats in the Silhouette machine?

  7. Debbie,

What are the springs for and approximately how long did it take to receive them if you went with free shipping?

    Marda

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hi Marda, I always go with free shipping. It didn't take me as long as I thought it would to get them. There is a link to email the Ebay seller. He can answer this much better than I can. It seems like it only took a week but my memory is terrible on things like this.

The springs are slipped over the blade then placed inside the blade holder. It's really easy to assemble it. I had to fiddle around a little bit to get the best cutting depth. I'm glad I keep my scraps. :) Hugs, Debbie

  9. Thanks so much for this information and your endorsement. I, too am finding I am having to replace the expensive blades in my Silhouette way too often.

I don't want to buy a second holder unless I have to to get the 60 degree blades. Are you able to cut everything with 45 degree blades? I am not seeing where I can get just the 60 degree blades without another holder except for vinyl? I do not cut vinyl at all at this point.

Thanks for your advice! And by the way, my daughter loved her Celtic knots and her wedding invite is almost done.

  10. Hi Karen, they call the blades vinyl plotter blades but they are for the blade holder. You don't have to order two blade holders. I just ordered two so I could have one dedicated to the 60 degree blade. I hardly ever use the 60 degree blade so your best purchase would be the 45 degree blades but you can purchase on blade holder and both sets of blades. They even have a 30 degree blade but I didn't see any use for this one. Karen, I will also email you with this information just in case you don't see this. Hugs, Debbie

    ReplyDelete
  11. I just wanted to add; the reason why I ordered tow blade holders was to have a dedicated 60 degree blade holder and not have to change out the blades. It's totally not necessary to get two blade holders. I just figured it would take a while before the blades dulled so I opted to get the two blade holders which come with three blades. The cost of 6- 60 degree blades is $17.00 so I figured a better value for me to have a dedicated blade holder was worth the extra $8.00. Both the 45 and 60 degree blades fit in the blade holder so it's not necessary to buy two.

I bought 2 blade holders just in case one didn't fit correctly right away.

I should have bought more blades but did not think of it at the time ; (

It is always nice to hear from someone that has used a product if it works or not. I appreciate that.

  12. Thanks Debbie for the info as I have been getting frustrated with the blades and the mats,I purchased a set of Cricut mats and I just cut them down to be the same size of the silhouette mat.do you use the same setting that it says only always do a double cut? When you know if you had to use a 60 degre blade?
You are alwaly such a wealth of information.

  13. Hi Jocelan, Since chatting with my friend Kim I've stuck to making sure to double cut everything. The results are so wonderful I wouldn't want to change. I definitely needed to double cut with that chipboard it was pretty thick. I wanted to mention, I use the Cricut mats and the Eclipse mats. I prefer the Eclipse mats as they are a bit more durable. I never cut them down. I just load them as is and so far it's worked out for me. The Silhouette mats are way too flimsy and cost too much for the little time they can be used. I love the Cricut and the Eclipse mats.Hugs, Debbie

  14. Hi Ruth, I told Silhouette about the 4 blades and they never offered to replace them. Two of them I could totally understand why they wouldn't replace them. My husband and I managed to mangle two of them while we were trying to get them apart to clean them. The CB09 blade holder and blades are working out fantastic and they cost is so much less. They are also a lot easier to clean. Thank you Ruth for trying to help. Big hugs, Debbie

  15. I wish that Silhouette would perfect their blades so that no one would feel the need to search out other products.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Tine, I wish they would have done this too. It's been a long time issue and really, it makes the cutting machine look bad. New users think the problem is with the machine when too often it has been the blade. The ratchet blades are also way too hard to clean the housing. My thoughts after rapidly going through 4 blades was; "stick a fork in me, I'm done." I also wish the blades were not so expensive. This is another reason I chose to use the CB09 blade holder and blades. Silhouette has promised for way too long about making blade changes. They should have made this a priority.

I always have a clean cut!(My machine stays set on Cutting Mat and Double Cut always).I wish I could say that about the those Cameo blades they are a HOT MESS!! and alot of money as per our conversations on them!! What really upset me with Cameo Blade was that the blade would go dull in a few days or weeks. I needed to find an alternative I am glad I did. If you decide to become a vendor (Wink, Wink - Smiles) I am on the list baby!! I thank you so much for taking my advise on purchasing them and using them!!!! Also Gayle is amazing I am glad I found the both of you!! Love my Blades Baby!!!

  21. I have a CB15,and I got very bad cuts with it ... it seems to strong for my silhouette power.
I don't know what I did wrong .... it makes strong noise when cutting, and it cut too deeply, I damaged my mat. :(
Maybe I would have order the CB09 ...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Cynthia. The CB15 does not work with the Silhouette Cameo as the machine does not have enough power/force to make the CB15 work efficiently. The CB15 is for more powerful cutting machines. The CB09 works perfectly with the Cameo.

  22. I have this blade and absolutely love it, I purchased it because the Silhouette one's are expensive in the UK and not that great. In comparison this blade is far superior and the blades are readily available in the UK on ebay. The initial setting up does take a little work but is well worth it.

I was so happy to read your experience on the CB09 blade holder and I updated my blog post to mention about your post and indicated a link to your blog. Thank you for the link to my blog. I'm also happy to hear about your connection with Kim Bell regarding the CB09. BTW, I keep 2 blade holders, too, but not for the different blade degrees as I only use the 45 degrees blade. I use one blade holder for a new blade for intricate cuts and the other blade holder is for an old blade used for basic shapes.

  27. Debbie - I have a question. I have a Cameo and bought the CB09 holder very shortly after I got because I too found the blades dull quickly and are hard to clean out. I love my CB09 holder and have not changed my blade since I installed. I have started to cut vinyl and always use a mat (because I have a hard time moving the rollers) I seem to always have the problem of the blade dragging across one area of the vinyl and cutting right through the middle of one of the letters. This happens when I am cutting large projects or long words. Do you having any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to correct it?
    Thanks for all the information,

  28. Hi Donna, This sounds more like a "Packet" issue. First try to reset your Packet size by going to File, Preference, Advanced then tick the radial button showing 500 packets, if this doesn't work well try ticking the 1000. Make sure to close, then re-launch Studio before trying this. You may want to try test cutting with paper first. If this continues to happen, please call or email Silhouette support. No matter what blade or blade holder you are using should cause this to happen. Hugs, Debbie

    1. Thanks Debbie, I never knew that stuff was there LOL and it makes no sense to me :/ anyways I went in there and my ticking was already set at 1000.
It only seems to do this when I am cutting vinyl and a long piece like words for a wall hanging, so it is hard to do a test cut. It has happened to me both in using Design Studio and MTC. I ruined a whole piece of 12 x 24 vinyl trying to cut out my great daughters name. Maybe I should call Silhouette and see if they have some ideas. I thought maybe I had my blade out to far but just checked and it is barely sticking out. Thanks for your help

  33. I ruined 2 cleaning them as well. They sent a new one but it turns easily by hand and white cap unscrews while cutting. Had 3 more I got for $8 each on a group buy. I have Cricut mats but not used them yet. I order lots from Warehouse Deals on Amazon. Its not used as it says but packaging may be bent or taped in a spot. Will see if they have Eclipse mats.
Will get CB09 soon. Just know someone will come up with a way to use those old broken blade holders for pens, or ill try, someday".

Thanks for the info. I have just used a blue blade for the first time, and it didn't cut at all! when i checked, i found that the removeable bit at the tip had done just that, and unscrewed itself while cutting and was just laying on the paper behind the roller bar! after that, i will Definitely follow you down this road. I was a bit disappointed, to say the least...
Many thanks for you blog...wouldn't miss it

  35. Hello again Debbie: Just received my CB09 tried cutting 4" detailed doily with Cameo; made slight adjustment (more blade); used patterned paper 65lb setting; slightly textured cardstock; these blades cut beautifully! : ) thanks.

  36. Just got my blade(s), but can't figure out how to adjust them --no springs in mine, I inserted the blade but there are no numbers on them to figure out how to adjust to a different blade length. However, I finally fiddled with dial at end and through turning it managed to get different depths of blade. Just put it through a test run on my Silhouette SD and I am very pleased. Even used an old mat that I had refurbished with 2 way glue which I am not too pleased with, but the cut was great. So glad I have extra blades.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Pauline, I'm so glad you like the blades. I'm a bit perplexed about the blades not having springs. Every one of my blades has a spring. You should email the Ebay sell (Liu) to let him know your blades didn't have springs. To refurbish my mats I use Krylon repositionable spray adhesive or the Slice spray adhesive. Both work great. I also buy the Cricut or Eclipse cutting mats. They are more durable and last longer.

Thank you for posting about your results with the blades. I hope everyone enjoys their blade holder and blades as much as I have. The beautiful cuts these blades make me so happy. I'm glad Kim told me to set everything to double cut. Before this, I was not too thrilled.

    Debbie

  38. Okay i am getting that blade no doubt about it ;)but why do you set it to double cut? Doesn't it cut the first time thru the cardstock? Or is this only for chipboard?

  41. I bought one of these from your seller on Ebay. The blades that came with it are as slender as needles and there are no springs with the extra blades. No springs anywhere, actually. So now I have to figure out where to buy these slender blades, I guess. I will say, it cuts like butter. There were no numbers on the blade holder so I had to experiment with the adjustments. My friend ordered one also and got the tiny blades. She had to use a jewelers loop to see the end of the blade to see what was happening when it wouldn't cut right. The very tip was broken off.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hi Linda, I'm not sure what is going on with the blades. The ones I received look like those in the picture and have springs with them.Even though the ones you received are cutting like butter they sure don't sound like the ones I was sent. There are not any numbers on the blade holder but it was easy for me to figure out the blade depth by following the link in this post to Ligaya's Creativity Zone blog. She has some excellent information and instructions on how to do this. I just wrote to the Ebay Seller (Liu) to ask about the blades you and your friend received. I'll get back with you when I hear from him. Please feel free to email me for his response. My email link is on the upper right hand side of my blog where it says' "Email Me". Hugs, Debbie

  44. Hi, I found you through Pinterest and am certainly glad I did. I am a new Cameo user and have not cut much but I am an old signmaker and have used cutting machines for my business. I often wondered how the blades from Silhouette compare or if there even would be an alternative. I see many comments regarding how long lasting the CB09 blades are. They are carbide tipped and these blades are made specifically for the sign industry and must hold up to the rigorous demand of that industry. I am also glad to find that there are both 45 and 60 degree blades that work with this. The 60's will work well with the chipboard or cereal cardboard.
I have pinned you to my board and I also belong to a Silhouette group on Facebook. Thanks once again for sharing this information with us.

  48. Hi Shannon, I haven't cut any stencils but this is a material where I would try the 60 degree blade (it's for thicker materials), or use the 45 degree blade at a deeper blade setting. If I get the chance, I'll try to do a test cut.

  49. Debbie-I'm a newbie to the Silhouette Cameo (2 months) but read your blog and purchased the CB09 and 45 and 60 degree blades. The silhouette blade holder has a ridge on one side so that after you adjust the blade depth the holder always drops back into the machine, and I assume, so the blade always begins the cut in a preferred direction. Should the CB09 holder be marked so it is placed in the machine in a direction to begin the cut? Any suggestions/recommendations are appreciated. Diane

  52. I'm a little late to this party but I'm hoping you can answer a Silhouette question for me. I use a Silhouette Cameo and when I cut vinyl I keep getting portions of what I'm cutting left uncut by the blade. For an example: "twinkle twinkle little star" was cut but portions of the K or the T or the S was left uncut, thus ruining a huge piece of vinyl. Do you have any idea of what would cause this? Thanks

  53. Hi Debbie! I found your link on Ligaya blog. I recently brought the CB09 blade after reading her article, but after it had cut beautiful for the first 10 cuts, I went back to cutting more after a couple of hours & it was so crappy! It wasn't even cutting through the cardstock, even with me increasing blade depth & how much blade was exposed. I designed & sell my cutfiles, so my machine gets alot of use. I think I've been through 7 silhouette blades before getting the CB09!! Thanks for trouble shooting on this - now to come up with a cheaper alternative for the cutting mat LOL. Anita :)

  58. Hi Debbie, I have got the CB09 Blade holder and blades, which I have had since February. I have had problems getting the correct settings, and found that my first two 45 degree blades only lasted about 10 cuts. On examining the blades in a magnifying glass I notices that the tip of the blades looked blunt (? broken) compared to the Silhouette blades. I then gave up using the CB09. Last month I read on the Silhouette Forum Plus how to set the blade depth. As my blade holder had 45 grooves I worked out 6 grooves to be 1 number on the Silhouette (based on the 4 grooves on the 30 grooves) to get the settings the same as the Silhouette blades. I am getting good cuts on 160g paper, based on Silhouette 2, thickness 32. I tried to cut a detailed file in Bazzill cardstock and did 2 double cuts, but it still did not cut right through, used thickness 33, speed 1, using 45 degree blade. Am not 100% sure of my blade settings. Also noticed that if I put in a 60 degree blade and set it at my markings on the holder equivalent to the Silhouette setting of 2 it does not protrude much at all (far less that the 45 degree blade). Please can you help me as I really want to get my settings right.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hi Julia,

The way I set mine the way I wanted was to look closely at the Silhuette Ratchet blade on a setting of 5 and then I adjusted the CB09 to look just like the Ratchet blade with the same amount of blade sticking out and in the same direction. After I did some test cuts and knew it was going to be perfect I marked my blade holder with a permanent marker so I would know exactly how to load it again. I alwys do "double cuts" because the are so clean and perfect. Many others test their CB09 blades by adusting the blade and swiping it across the medium they cut the most. I don't double cut when cutting vinyl. I've used my CB09 45 degree blade for almost a year and have never changed the balde. Here is a link to a video I found that may help you get it adjsuted. I use Image Plus Cardstock a whole lot since I do so many test cuts.I set htis at Blade 4, Speed 8, and Thickness 33. I hope this is helpful It may be a bit fiddly to get the initial set up but once you get it, you are going to love these blades. 1. Thanks so much Debbie. I have watched the video and I will now do some experiments. Do you use the same settings for the 60 Degree blades and are these better for Bazzill cardstock? I only have one holder so will have to swop the blades out. I really appreciate all your help.

    2. Julia, I've never had to use the 60 degree blade. this baby has even cut cereal weight chipboard. I will have to try the 60 degree blade on the cereal weight chipboard just to see if it will cut intricate cuts. :)

  60. Thank you, Debbie! I'm *very* interested in a re-useable blade holder for my new Silhouette Portrait. The link you gave for the seller says the item is sold, so I went to his other listings. There's one for a "CB09U" as well as for "CB09". The "CB09U" listing lets you choose which blade angle you want, which would be nice, but I can't figure out the difference between "CB09" & "CB09U". Do you know? Would the "CB09U" work in a Silhouette too?

    Thanks!

  62. Hello, I guess Liu no longer sells them. I found another link where you can ppurchase this at a lower price. Here is that link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Graphtec-CB09-Blade-Holder-5-pcs-Blades-for-CB09-GRAPHTEC-VINYL-CUTTER-PLOTTER-/300988155006 and here is another. You wil probably receive this one a lot faster and it's listed as a CB09U http://elkinscreek.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=60&product_id=72 The one from Ebay is less expensive but it will take some time to receive it.

  63. Woohoo....It looks like they are the same as Liu offers. Tell your hubby I said, great find. I know where I'll be ordering my next set of blades. I may never have to oder more. I bought extra blades and two blade holders so I could dedicate one to 60 degree and one to the 45 degree. I've only used the 45 degree and have used the same one for almost a year and still haven't had to change the blade. Thank you for sharing the links.

  64. Thanks for all the info you give us. This is a great site! I have a question: Did you get the extra blades and blade holders from the same person? Just let me know

  65. Hi Lynn, I got mine from Liu on Ebay but the price is better from the Ebay dealer pussywillowpress's husband found. These ship from China so they do take a littel while to get. I bought two blade holder and many blades. But this seller gives you ten blades with the blade holder. I'm so glad pussywillowpress shared this link. What a great find. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Graphtec-CB09U-silhouette-cameo-craftrobo-cutting-plotter-blade-holder-10-knife-/181336978463?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a3886b41

  68. Hello there, I am a male crafter from the UK and never really write anything on the web but thought I should add my two-penneth to this blog as it's been so helpful to me. I wanted to try the alternative blades and holder for quite some time, but I'm sure like many others I was a little apprehensive. After reading, reading and re-reading all the info and comments on here, along with Gayle's blog, I finaly took the plunge and ordered them from the original seller you mentioned on E-Bay. Sooooooo glad I did. I decided to get two holders, one for each size of blade so there's no swapping about. Following your advice and watching the video links, I haven't had any real problems with paper thickness or blade depth ... it just takes a bit of experimenting (but I found I had to do that with the official blades too) I've had them a month now, always use double cut and there FAB!
So I thought it was only right to tell anyone who is still unsure about converting that they shouldn't wait around for ages like I did and just go for it.
Thanks again for all your research Debbie ... your a star!
Take care and have fun :) x

  71. Hi Debbie,
I have been experimenting with my new blade to cut 10 mil mylar sheets for the past 2 days with no luck. I am getting frustrated and disappointed. Please help! I don't know if it is the blade or me. I had to add a tiny metal piece under the magnet piece inside the blade housing unit because I was unable to expose the blade otherwise. Even with the adjustment knob turned all the way in, the blade would not protrude out of the cap. The small metal piece I added inside the blade housing unit fixed that problem. But the blade is not cutting through the mylar sheets. I set my cameo to blade 10, thickness 33, speed 1, and double cut. I tested blade (60 degree) depth by poking the blade through the material. Please tell me what I am doing wrong? Thank you

    1. Hi Home Synchronize, I've only used 7 mil mylar and it cuts beautifully. I've only used my 45 degree angle blade and use these settings and making sure to check the double cut selection; ratchet blade 3 setting (but I never really change the depth on the CB09 I pretty much leave where I originally set my setting to cut a heavy cardstock and to get this just right I had to make many test cuts n a lot of scratch card stock. When I finally got the results I wanted I just left the settings where they are , thickness 32-33, speed 3. I hope this information is at least a little helpful. I'm so sorry you've had such a time trying to gt this done. I would recommend a thinner mylar. Perhaps a 7 mil. Best wishes, Debbie

  72. Debbie, one of our facebook group are wondering who have used the blade the longest without causing damage to the Cameo hardware because CB09 weighs heavier than the stock blades. I've been using it for awhile now and I love it but I am not a heavy user so I can't base it on my usage. Based on the engineering of the cutter, pushing down a heavier blade holder will actually help it. The only thing I could think of is the spring to pull it up may get weak after some time. Ligaya's CB09 blog is about 2 years old and she has not reported any problems. I am wondering who have used it longer without damaging the hardware.

    1. I too have used this blade holder and blade for a long time and I use it a lot. So far, all is well. For the cost savings I've had I'll continue to take my chances. I was going through the ratchet blades like crazy and they were so difficult to dismantle and clean. Keeping my fingers crossed that no problems arise from using the heavier CB09. Hugs, Debbie

  74. Thanks you for information, Debbie.

    I'm a newbie from Thailand.
My very first blade lasted for only for 20 days (daily use and various type of materials) and since I have to pay 3 times more expensive price here , it is no fun at all.
So I realized I have to buy them online for cheaper price even though I hate purchasing things via paypal and waiting for very long shipping.
After reading your blog post I've decided to try once and will let you know the experiment though.

    Hugs from Thailand,
    Sheryl

  76. Hi Debbie, I just went to the eBay link and noticed this: Graphtec CB09U silhouette cameo craftrobo cutting plotter blade holder +10 knife So is this the one we need the CB09U or just the CB09?
Just it specifies the CB09U for the Cameo. With them coming from China I want to make sure I order the right thing.
    Thanks.....Great name I'm a Debbie too

  78. Hi! I just received my CB09 holder and blades, but I couldn't find the springs. I was wondering if its absolutely essential to have the springs. I assembled the holder and blade without the spring and did some test cuts, so far, its good. Will using the assembly without the spring ruin my machine, the holder or my projects in the future? I am very wary, I live where these scrapbooking materials are not only hard to come by, they are so expensive too. Thank you for your help!

    1. Hi Kai, I'm afraid I can't answer your question because I've never used the blades without the spring. Every blade should have a spring with it. For some reason they must have forgotten to send the springs along with the blades. Please contact the dealer you bought them from and let them know they forgot to give you the springs.

  79. Hi Debbie, I purchased the blades and mats based on your recommendations. I too am frustrated with the Cameo blades. I do have one question though - you state that you never change the blade setting - is that on the blade itself, the cameo software or both? Thanks in advance.

  80. Hi again Debbie, I had another question. While I was researching issues with the blades, I came across an article that said to uninstall the latest version (3), and re-install the previous version (2) of the Silhouette software. I did that, and it has seemed to correct some of the issues, but I would really like to take advantage of the new releases enhancements. Which version are you running? Thanks in advance.

  83. I must have incredibly bad luck. I ordered one of these blade housings and it didn't even come close to fitting in my Cameo. I returned it to the seller and ordered from the link you provided. This one doesn't fit either. I don't get it. Is there something I need to do to the Cameo? I don't see anyone else having this problem. Thanks in advance for your help. Love your videos.

    1. Hi Denise, it's not your luck. I ordered one that didn't fit my Cameo. I used sandpaper to smooth it down enough to fit. I know of many others who had to do the same thing. I hope you can get one that you don't have to use sandpaper on, but most likely they are not out there. Thank you for your sweet comment on the videos. I truly appreciate it. 84. Debbie - I am making my daughter's wedding invites, it is a Celtic knot on 130lb thick glossy card stock. I am going through blades like crazy. I purchased the CB09 holder and 60 blade. I can't get it to cut all the way through. With the SIL blades i have to have it on 10, speed 1, thickness 33, double cut, with offset .02 if that makes sense. If I have the CB09 all the way out it doesn't cut all the way through, and drags. I can get it to cut other stuff, but I really need it for the wedding invites. I have about 80 done, and 50 more. PS thanks for your tip on the Eclipse mat it is wonderful.

  85. I am making my daughter's wedding invites, and have about 75 of them done with about 50 to go. The problem is I am cutting an intricate Celtic knot on 130lb card stock that has a glossy finish. I have to use a blade setting of 10, speed 1, thickness 33 offset .02, and double cut. I am going through blades like crazy. I think it is the glossy finish. I purchased the CB09 holder and 60 degree blades. I can get the holder to cut everything but the card stock. It just won't cut it all the way through. Any ideas? I would really like to get this CB09 to work as I have heard great things about it. PS thanks for the tips on the Eclipse mat, i love it

    1. Hi Nancy, I just now learned of your post. I hope I'm not too late replying. Please try to turn the knob on the CB09 blade holder so it will cut deeper. Do a test cut first to make sure you didn't set it out too far. Best wishes for your daughter and her groom. Blessings and hugs, Debbie

  86. When setting up the CB09 blades I followed the instructions for adding the numbered depth setting strip and set the blade at zero. When dropping the blade into the Silhouette blade holder, how can I tell if the blade is in the correct position. In other words, the Silhouette blade has a long "ridge" that is supposed to be lined up with the notch before tightening the blade housing into place. That "ridge" is not aligned with the cutting depth number. Hope that makes sense.

    1. When I bought my first blade, I also had problems figuring it out. I grabbed a new Silhouette blade and aligned the blade/angle to match the one on the new Silhouette blade. I always double cut everything. I've heard from others who tell me they don't double cut and it works well, but I haven't had that experience. Even though I double cut and it seems to take more time; it's worth it. I did increase the speed settings on all of my double cuts and this too works very well. I hope the information I've given you is helpful. Sometimes it just takes a bit of fiddling, but once you get it, you will love the results and the savings. Blessing and hugs, Debbie
