With all of the back to school things going on around the internet and having my grandchildren coming over tomorrow to spend the weekend, I've had crayons on my mind. Today, I designed a crayon box cutting file with the Studio software for Silhouette cutting machine users. It will hold a 24 Crayola crayons. The box of crayons shown below will probably be gifted to my sister whom teaches the littlest ones. I plan on making a couple of cute themed ones for our grandchildren.
I don't want to bore anyone but I know some readers like a few details on how something is made so here I go. :-) First the box was cut out on some heavy card stock, then I slid the box portion of the cutting file to the side to cut out the decorative paper. This is a light weight designer paper so I had to change the cut settings. It worked perfectly. I have a huge box of this 12 x 12 paper. It has all sorts of pretty designer paper in it and it was a steal of a deal. Don't you just love to find those deals you can't pass up.
The band was made with some scrap paper I had laying around and the ribbon rose was made with a piece of scrap ribbon. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube on how to make the ribbon roses. Since I also had a piece of green scrap paper I hand cut a couple of leaves then embossed lines on them to make a more realistic looking leaf. After I embossed the leaves, I added some ink to bring out the lines in the leaf. Last, I placed three sparkling rhinestones to add the bling I love so much. This was another quick and easy project. I hope you all get the chance to make your own designer crayon box. I would love to see what you made. You can always email me the pic so I could show off your work here on my blog.
I almost forgot to mention this, this cutting file will work with the original Silhouette and the Silhouette SD.
Happy crafting my blog friends!

Oops....I lightened this picture up a bit too much. The one below shows what the colors really look like.

This is awesome! Thanks for the instructions and file :) I've never made a ribbon rose, so thanks for pointing me in the direction to find out how!
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend!!! xoxo
Thanks, Debbie! Sounds like you are feeling better. Cute box and I love the way you decorated it! I like you telling how you put things together and your thoughts about the project, too! Have fun with the grandkids! How did the flooring/painting job go? Hugs!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the file. I am loving my silhouette cameo.
ReplyDeleteH everyone, thank you for stopping by and for leaving such inspiring comments. I love to share and learn these cutting files are going to be used. My grandchildren want a Star Wars and princess crayon box. I hope I can get them made one for tomorrows overnight adventure with us. My sweet hubby is really going to be doing most of the grandchildren work since I still feel like crud. The least I can do is get their crayon boxes made. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this great box - and it was really nice of you to make it workable for us Silhouette SD people! Thanks again.
