Studio V3 DE - How To Convert Coloring Pages to Cutting Files

Welcome everyone! Today I wanted to share a video tutorial on using coloring pages and converting them into cutting files by using the free, easy to use, internet tool to convert them so you can bring them into your Studio DE software to color them and make them into some nice cutting files. Some time ago Kay from her Cleversomeday Blog (that brilliant woman) shared as she always does a wonderful internet tool; Rapid Resizer. Even though I quite often use CorelDraw I still love this free internet tool. For one thing, it's free for all and easy to use.

In the video I made for everyone; I'll walk you through the steps of using RapidResizer and then show you what to do after you've converted the file in the Studio Designer Editon software. I've made lots of these fun to make cutting files and now my grandchildren want to help me color them in the Studio program. Well, they also want me to print them too....lol I hope this video will bring you more crafty and creative fun.

Blessings
Debbie

Here are just a few images I converted this past weekend.

  2. Debbie, I did get your email, thank you. I was wondering, have you found a link for 'extra time'? Thank you for video, now I need to figure out 'how to' do SVG in CorelDraw!

    1. Hi Lyn, I sent you an email to your hotmail email. It has a link to a video I made for you showing you how to use CorelDraw to make an .svg. Hugs, Debbie

    2. Wow, wow, I've had the best day! Thank you for the video - all the options are available in 5 & 6, just have to find them. It is so cool to be able to create svg files. Thank you so much.

P.S. didn't get back to bed, I was so inspired - absolutely 'knackered', at the time of writing.

  3. You are so helpful, Debbie in sharing videos with the crafting community & I am sure there are many who find them invaluable in enhancing their crafting. I don't recall hearing of the Rapid Resizer page you mentioned so I shall definitely go & check this out - I am even tempted to now upgrade to V.3!!!!!

    1. Hi Tine, This internet tool is way cool. I'm glad you are considering the update. I'm using another beta test software so I know they're working very hard to perfect it. You may want to wait just a little bit longer. I've had no major complaints and have enjoyed using the new features but I know some have had bigger issues. Hugs, Debbie

  4. Hi Debbie! Very helpful video! Thank you so much for showing us more than one way to get images into SSDE. I haven't upgraded to version 3 yet, based on info shared by you and Kay. Thank you so much for being a beta tester. As soon as you say the upgrade is good to go, I'll upgrade!

    1. Hi Lady Fair, I've not had any big issues but I know some have. I updated in order to be able to use the new features but the Studio V3 still has issues. The upgrade they just offered is still not a "fix all". I'm not sure when they will release a V3 update that is a "fix all" but I keep the faith and continue to let them know about issues I discover and those others have discovered. Right now, I'm using a beta version in hopes that each beta test will get them a little closer to a consistent and stable version. Studio V2 is more stable but I can't resist the new tool and the layer features of V3....lol Hugs, Debbie

  5. Thank you for this video. It is something I have been trying to figure out if it could be done. You answered it for me, but when I tried it, it opens a new window that is blank. I tried several files, but the same happens with all. Not sure what to do. I am using a Mace and don't know if it matters.

    1. Hi Farida, Kay just sent me an email. She is so helpful and kind! Here is what she suggested:
"She needs to change her default settings in Silhouette Studio to center to page and change white lines to black. Again, not a Mac problem but an overall problem. I used to only be able to get RR to work with jpgs, but lately it works fine for me with pngs, too." Best wishes, Debbie

  6. Hi Farida, I'm not sure why this is happening. Many times I wish I had a Mac so I could test things out for Mac users My go to person on a Mac would be Kay (Cleversomeday). I'll email her and see if she might have the answer.

  7. Hi Debbie, I love your video's, they are so helpful. I am was following you step by step on the video and trying to do the Mickey holding the umbrellas that you did and notice that when I color his umbrellas the hand fills in also, same with the handle. I released the compound path but it still does it. Is there something I missing? Please help. Thanks so much, I can't wait to start using this my grandson will love it!

    1. Hi Vickie, Some of the pieces group together. You have to make sure, when you see pieces grouped to have them selected before you select "Release Compound Path". The same thing happened to me when I was working on this Mickey image. This is when I discovered some of the pieces stay grouped. I can't remember for sure but I think I also had to ungroup again. I'll try this again later to day and let you know. Hugs, Debbie

  8. Hi Debbie i have had my silhouette only a few weeks now and it is taking time (lots of time) to get to grips with it. I did upgrade to version3 and i have the designer edition like yourself. The tutorials you do are fantastic and this latest one i am amazed to what can be done. I tried the same butterfly and followed your instructions brilliant - but i have tried a few myself and some dont work - you cannot get all the sections to seperate. Is this normally the case of some of them. Thanks heaps and heaps Ann x

    1. Hi Anne, I think the heavier the black lines are; the easier they separate. Some of the pieces I've had to select "Release Compound Path" then ungroup them. You can also do an "Auto Trace on coloring book pages, then "Release Compound Path" and fill the inner pieces with color. Kay (Cleversomeday) have a series of excellent video tutorials called; "Tracing Without Tears". She does a fantastic job explaining each step of tracing and how to get the best trace using the "Auto Trace". I knew she had these videos so I just showed a different way of doing this so we have options. She is also the one who introduced the Rapid Resizer. Her blog is totally worth a visit. You'll love the ideas she has shared. Hugs, Debbie

  9. Hi Debbie, Thanks so much for the video. I have a question probably very basic but I am not a graphic person. Is there a benefit to creating an svg file instead of merging a jpeg and tracing. Is the quality better? Cindy
PS: If you have time I would love if you would consider redoing the v3 new options video since the bugs are fixed. I would love to post the video on our MCsilies facebook group site but don't want to scare all the people with the talk of bugs. I love Love Love V3 for my metalclay cutting.

    1. Hi Peaceofshine, I am so limited in the amount of time I have to make videos it would be difficult for me to re-make the video. I do plan on doing some more updated videos when the newest version of Studio V3 is released. Currently, I am a beta tester for Silhouette and was asked to make sure to tell others there are still some bugs and the latest update is not a "fix - all". I receive many emails and comments from people all around the world; some have no major issues and others are still having some issues. I know Silhouette America is working hard to fix each and every concern but the current release is not the "fix all". I think the current video allows Studio users to know about some bugs/issues still exists, but it is being worked on.

I was excited to learn how nice the Silhouette cutting machine is cutting the metal clay. I've been asked if the cutting machines could do this, but I couldn't answer the question since I've never tried to cut metal clay. Thank you for letting me know this.Hopefully, there will be some video tutorials on this. I'm sure many would love to know how to go about cutting the metal clay.

      Blessings and hugs,
      Debbie

    1. Hi Alejandra, I haven't made a video tutorial on using CorelDraw to convert coloring pages. I haven't had CorelDraw for too long, but I was asked to make one. I plan on getting a video made. The other problem I had when making this video and the one where I show how to use our stamps and auto trace them had the "copyright police" giving me a hard time about this. They commented many times about me violating the "Terms of Use", "Copyright" and "Angel Policies". I will probably make this video, but have to think how I can go about it without creating too much of a fuss with them. Hugs, Debbie
