More Card Shares - Geo and Braided Cards

Some time ago I shared a lot of  "Geo" shapes on the Silhouette Plus Forum. In my efforts to organize the member file shares, I lost or deleted them. One of our members posted a challenge on braided cards which reminded me of past shares and had me searching for the Geo shapes. After I couldn't locate them on the forum I searched in my files. Sure enough, right there in a folder with its own name, "Geo Shapes" were the files. I took the files and made card files of them so I could share them here with all of you and on the Silhouette Plus forum.

You can decorate/ embellish these cards in all sorts of fun ways. I cut all of these out them without placing any time to embellishing them. I just wanted to be able to show a sample of the various card styles so you all could see if you wanted to give them a try.

Three of the four Geo and Braided card file is in one file. I forgot to share the "Heart Geo" card file so I went back to the drawing board to make it. Both sets of files are in Studio V2 and V3 formats. I hope you all find lots of fun and creative things to do with these card files.

Oh, I almost forgot to explain how easy they are to make. Once you cut the card file, all you have to do is go counter clockwise tucking the larger of the cuts under the smaller cuts. On the braided card you do the same except you start at the top, fold down the triangular cut and tuck it into the smaller cut below it. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Pop Out- Not Pop Up Card, Update, and Silhouette Mat Tip

Hi Everyone, I hope all have been doing well. Today, I want to blog about a couple of things and share a fun card and instructions.

First, I want to update everyone about my daughter. Sadly, we still have no conclusive news or updates. After my daughter's trip to the Mayfield Clinic in Ohio they decided she needed two more tests ran because of some of their findings from her MRI. She will return to the Mayfield Clinic this week. I'll let everyone know what we learn. Many thanks to all of you who have kept my dear daughter, Jennifer in your thoughts and prayers.

Now for the Silhouette mat tip. I've been so busy and end up squeezing in time for crafting and creating. While I was trying to make some Print and Cut cards my mat was becoming less and less sticky. I didn't want to stop to spray it with some repositionable spray so I grabbed my blue Painter's tape, tore off some small pieces and placed them on the four corners of my mat. I made sure not to cover any part of the registration marks. It worked like a charm and I proceeded to cut all of the rest of the Print and Cuts in this manner. The nice thing about using the tape is that it can be re-used. I just placed it on the edges of my craft table.


At last, the card. I saw an adorable birthday "Pop-Out" card on Creation by Patti Blog. She makes the most wonderful cards and crafts. I loved to visit her blog. After I saw her adorable birthday "Pop-Out" card I decided to make my own cutting file and make a couple of Halloween cards. Patti didn't have any instructions on her blog, but I remembered doing one like this some time ago. It can be tricky to get just right. If you make the angles of the folds correctly, your images will pop out to the left and right. For those new to this technique I would recommend making a sample card with scraps first. It is important to follow the instructions to a tee. Make sure to tuck a small piece of the upper corner under the "band" that holds the "center card in place. Make sure you don't glue the slits at the top portion of the card. It's where the images will pop out to the side.

I've created a template of the Halloween Pop- Out Card with the face of Frankie I used for my boxes. I'm sorry but, I couldn't share the card front image it's copyrighted. I'm sure all of you have some fun Halloween images to use for the front of your cards.

When you pull up on the center "message" or "Image" part of the card Up and Out! goes the arms or any image you choose.

Video Tutorial on Making the LED Light Up Cupcake Card

Hello everyone, I was asked if I would make a video tutorial on how to make the circuit board for the LED Light Up Cupcake Card. The cutting files, template, material list, and material list links can be downloaded below. It's all in a zipped file.

Please excuse the shape my hands and nails are in. This is what hands that do remodeling side work look like...lol.

I used my cheap Flip video recorder and it behaved itself, not one, but two times.....woohoo! I made the first video and by accident deleted the wrong video, so it was back to the drawing board. Trying to go too fast often times makes me do "do-overs". All in all, it got the job done and I hope those who are visual learners like me will find this more helpful than just the written instructions.

LED Lighted Card and Instructions

This weekend I tried to keep my mind busy with other things. My daughter did the same. She and her fiance went away for a weekend of fun with friends.

Today, I would like to share a fun card cutting file. Our son's birthday is coming up and I wanted to make him something fun, so I made an LED light up birthday card. I thought this card would be fun for others to make. I finished his card, then made a cutting file for those who are new to LED circuits to be able to do a "Print and Cut" they can follow. Inside the file you'll find a supply list, instructions, and both Studio V2 and V3 cutting files. I hope you get a chance to try this fun activity. It's also fun to do with children, You can use regular aluminum foil if you don't have copper tape. You can also find these supplies at other stores if you don't want to wait to get them from Amazon.

Even though I included a materials list in the folder I will also link them here. Copper is a better conductor, but the aluminum foil worked great.

Update: Ding - A - ling Alert on Halloween Treat Boxes

Update: Ding-a- ling alert: I don't know what I was thinking when I posted each cutting file as a separate donation. When anyone sends a donation they will receive all 3 Halloween treat boxes. How It All Started....Baby In A Crib Card and More

I finally have a couple of new cards. The one card was so much work, but it was also so much fun. Every now and then I need to make cards I place up for donations as this helps to keep me in supplies and doing the things I do to help others. I hope you all will enjoy them. The Baby In A Crib Card turned out so cool! I'm also adding a new Swing Card for those who make a donation. I appreciate the support I've been shown and I hope these cards will bring you lots of crafty fun  .

What a week! As usual, I keep many irons in the fire and often find myself getting lost as I go from one project to another. This being said; I can't resist a challenge. I have a dear friend who likes to test me in a good way. Every now and then she will find something on the internet (usually Pinterest....she's addicted!...lol....sorry Patty, but you admitted it...lol) Patty sent me a picture of a card she wanted me to make as challenge for making cutting files. I enjoy a good challenge and seem to make time for them. Insomnia has really helped  me to keep up and get a few fun things done that I haven't had the time for.

Her challenge was the cutest little bear in a bed. I love paper piecing, bears, and dimensional cards so I took on this challenge and am glad to say it was successful. Of course, this made me think of other things to make. I haven't designed any new cards in a while. Since the design of the Bear was a challenge card made from a photo I'm not sure if I can share this or not.

With baby showers and new baby arrivals coming up soon, my mind went to baby things and I created the Baby In A Crib card. It is so... cute! My dear husband it so sweet. He told me he can hardly wait to bring it to work to show the ladies. I spent more time on making this card than any card I've ever made. I couldn't stop thinking of things. This card comes with all sorts of goodies. I made bibs for them head bands, mobile, bottles, bears, hats and made sure to make the babies in three different skin tone colors using a skin tone color chart.

When I made the very first Baby In A Crib card my always thinking husband thought it would be cut if the baby would move in the crib. I loved his idea! So I added a homemade Wobbler. You should see how adorable this little baby looks wobbling in its crib. I wish I would have made a video. If I get the time, I just might have to make one.

Some time ago I made a video showing how to make the homemade Wobblers then I remembered it was one of the videos I deleted by accident. Good news! I found another YouTube tutorial by Charming Custom Crafts and she has a great tutorial. I do mine a little differently. After I loop the wire and leave a little bit of wire on both ends to poke through the holes I bend them flat, tape over it then glue another circle on top to cover the wire. Below are some photos (I still wish I could take better photos) of the Baby In A Crib, and Swing Card 2014. These are the cards I will email to those who make a donation. The Baby In A Crib is in Studio V2, Studio V3, and .svg format. I totally forgot to convert the Swing Card 2014. Oh, I almost forgot! The Baby In A Crib card comes with a cutting file envelope for mailing and giving. The nice thing about this card is that it folds flat. I did make the mobile a little too high, but it fit in the envelope I made so all is well. The first card I made will probably just sit around. After seeing this baby with the Wobbler I wouldn't want to give it to anyone any other way. Did I say it is so....Cute!...lol Thank for looking and again, thank you for your kindness and support.

Challenge Card

Tutorial and Cutting Files Share for an Indian Wedding Invitation

Good day to all. Today, I wanted to share a video tutorial on how to make cards with a sketched intricate design. I was asked to make this video from a nice lady named Shehnaz. She sent me a link so I could see some pictures of traditional Indian wedding invitations. I was so anxious to make one. At first, I went about the hard way of doing things, then I discovered an easier way and wanted to share it with others. I made about three different designs and cut them all out. The pictures below are one of them with a different design than I used in the video. This design was the hard way....lol It took me forever to get it designed then a light went on. I now can share a much easier and faster way to create this lovely card. The pictures just don't do it any justice. The gold gel pen I used looks silver in the picture and it is really a lovely gold. I'm not much of a photographer, but try to share pictures of finished projects to give everyone an idea of what their own creations can look like.

Bling, Bling....Sharing Some Rhinestone Designs

Hi everyone, I hope all of you have been enjoying the Summer days and nights. In the evening I have really enjoyed sitting outside on our screened in porch watching the lovely firefly display. We have so many fireflies flying through the night air. It's quite a lovely light show.

I've been burning some midnight oil trying to do all of the things I like to do and some things I don't like to do.... lol. I've made several HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl) glitter and regular vinyl, T-shirts and then began working with rhinestones again. Because I've been taking some time out to enjoy some creative projects I hope all of you can too. I know Summers are filled with so many activities our crafting usually takes a back seat.

Many of us are animal lovers and I wanted to make sure I covered all of the cat lovers and dog lovers. Our home has two sweet dogs and one adorable cat. We sure do love our fur babies, even though they can be a little naughty from time to time. Our cat loves everyone and everything, but our littlest and eldest dog just loves me and sort of puts up with the rest of the family. He doesn't bite, but he sure gives out some warnings to anyone who tries to go near me. Both dogs are rescue dogs. Our old boy was really ill when we brought him home so I had to pretty much be his mommy replacement so he turned into a protective little fellow.

Today, I'm sharing some rhinestone cutting files. I had to make two separate designs to pull this off. The .svg file looks a little different than the Studio files I created. Below are the pictures of the files. The download includes.svg, Studio V2, and Studio V3 cutting files. It's been a while since I've had the time to design some files and able to get here to share and I love to share. I hope all of you using these files will enjoy creating some bling creations. Studio V3 DE - How To Convert Coloring Pages to Cutting Files

Welcome everyone! Today I wanted to share a video tutorial on using coloring pages and converting them into cutting files by using the free, easy to use, internet tool to convert them so you can bring them into your Studio DE software to color them and make them into some nice cutting files. Some time ago Kay from her Cleversomeday Blog (that brilliant woman) shared as she always does a wonderful internet tool; Rapid Resizer. Even though I quite often use CorelDraw I still love this free internet tool. For one thing, it's free for all and easy to use.

In the video I made for everyone; I'll walk you through the steps of using RapidResizer and then show you what to do after you've converted the file in the Studio Designer Editon software. I've made lots of these fun to make cutting files and now my grandchildren want to help me color them in the Studio program. Well, they also want me to print them too....lol I hope this video will bring you more crafty and creative fun.

Notes and Discoveries - The New Studio 3.0.351 Update

Today as promised the newest Studio 3.0.532  update was released. Silhouette had already let us know in advance this new update was not a "fix all" update. I wanted to make sure to remind all of us whom may still be having some issues to continue to be patient while the Silhouette programmers continue to work away.

I was thilled to get a little bit of an early sneak peek of the software so I played around for a while and made some notes to share with all of you.

For the most part I'm pretty please with some of the discoveries and will be patient while I await other issue to be addressed. The wonderful thing about Silhouette support and the programmers for Silhouette is; they listen and care about the input we give them. With all of the videos and emails I send them they always reply with a kind thank you and show of appreciation for what I'm trying to do. They feel this way about all of their customers and value our feedback. I would have thought by now I would have driven them batty....lol

If you would like to see a list of all the issues Silhouette has addressed you can check them out by clicking on this link : Studio V 3.0.531 Release Notes They addressed so very many of our concerns and bug reports. Speaking for myself; I was already pleased with the new cut by layers, line color, fill color, the new Arc tool, Nesting feature and some of the other things added that I honestly never had any major complaints but I know many have had some not so nice issues they were dealing with. I hope the fixes for all you is in this update.

Before this release I wasn't able to do a TWAIN scan with my HP 6500 series scanner. The great news is I can now scan using TWAIN. I've read on the forum; some Mac users are still having issues with TWAIN scanning. I'm sure it is complicated and difficult for programmers to work around all of the operating systems but I have faith they will eventually get it all worked out.

The other issue I discovered recently was during a file save. The file I was trying to save is rather large (4 MB) and has a lot of intricate detailed line art. When I try to save it, it will show a working bar that says "Generating Cut Job" then when I click anywhere inside of Studio I get the message "Studio Not Responding" this causes me to have to go to the Task Manager and close out of Studio. I end up getting a temporary file saved but it won't open the cut file I tried to save. Any other files have saved just fine. I made a video and reported this to Silhouette Support just in case others may have the same issue. I was finally able to save it as a V2 file but really wanted to have it has a V3 file.

Another change.... we use to be able to use the Control + Click and Drag method to duplicate a shape. We can still do this but it has changed to Alt + Click and Drag. The Control + Click and Drag will now bring up the "Transfer Properties/Eye Dropper Tool", I like having this short cut but know many of my old videos show using this short cut to duplicate a shape by clicking and dragging; again no big deal because the word will get around. One more neat thing is the ability to duplicate text and shapes by using the Control + Arrow Keys. The arrow you choose will duplicate the test or shape in that direction. Pretty neat. 

I created a PDF file with all of the short cuts and highlighted the new ones. Some of these shortcuts come in real handy. If you would like to grab this to have a shortcut resource you can download it here:  Silhouette Studio Shortcuts I apologize to all those whom use Macs for not making a PDF file for all of you. As you all probably know by now I'm a PC user. I think those of you whom use Macs can substitute many of the shortcuts with the Command key and other familiar Mac keys to do the same things. I also discovered later in my explorations that the Control + Arrow Keys not only moved text but shape so in the PDF it will only show it's used for moving shapes.

So far I have really enjoyed seeing the how many bugs have been fixed. I know this newest release was not promised to be a "fix all" but Silhouette sure did a great job addressing so many issues. I know they will continue to work on making this the very best cutting software we can own. I believe positive thoughts will bring positive things and our feedback has helped out Silhouette America so much. Isn't it nice to know we are appreciated.

Calling All CB09 Blade Holder and Blade Users - A Great Share!

I'm so excited to be able to share this wonderful idea that Pete; one of the Silhouette Plus forum members hsared on the forum. I wrote to him to ask his permission to share his brilliant idea here on my blog. When some wonderful share comes out I try to make sure I share it here.

for those of you whom struggle with the settings for the CB09; Pete has come up with a solution. I've basicaly left my setttings the same for every cut due to the fact I was never sure exaclt how much of the bald to expose. For this reason I do everything as a double cut which works out beautfiully but now I'm anxious to try Pete's wonderful idea. Below I've copied and pasted his post and I'll also be sharing the photos he took and the cutting file download link for the file he so kindly made for our CB09 blade holders.

"I thought this might be a handy idea for all of that use the CB09 blade. I just got mine, and decided to try to make things easier for myself.

I thought maybe I can replicate the numbers on the Silhouette blade, and make it easier to adjust.

I divided the top knurled screw into sets of 4 grooves as suggested by lots of people and then measured the circumference of the top of the body. (sounds technical, but in reality I wrapped a bit of paper round).

When I had done this, I divided the paper into the amount needed, marked lines at the top and printed numbers underneath, and stuck it to the barrel, making sure that the blade was set to no depth. It doesn’t matter where you align the zero, but when done, make sure you know where by marking it in some way before moving it.

I'm sorry if this explanation is a bit brief, but I have enclosed a picture which may explain what I mean, together with a few markers for you to cut and use, including a couple of spares, if you get in a mess like I did.

Bear in mind that as you are moving the knurled screw at the top, and not the barrel of the blade, the rotation will be clockwise!"

Creating Pop Ups and Paper

Before I became ill with this horrible stomach bug I was busy palying, designing, and creating. I have made several of the "Dangle Pop Up" cards for graduation and my wonderful Mom a Mother's Day card. As I prepare to make a video on how to create pop up card files I thought I would start by shoowing how to create the "Pop Up Stairs" card you will see below.

My mind has been wondering everywhere so I also made a video on how to customize you Silhouette Studio patterns and make your own. Donation Pop Up Card and Freebie Pop Up Card

It's been a long time since I've created a file for donation. I was inspired by a video I watched to create this cutting file. As you all know, I spend a lot of time creating cutting files and always test cut them before I share them. After I do this I photograph them and share almost all of my files for free. The file " Pop Up Dangle Card" will be emailed to all whom would like to make a donation as my way of thanking them for their kindness and support. I use the money I receive from donations to buy crafting supplies and other things I may need to continue to create and share. This file contains .svg, Studio V2, and Studio V3 files and a link to some video instructions on how to put it together. t folds nice and lfat so it will be easy for mailing

Don't worry, if you don't want or can't make a donation I still have a little goody for you. I made this cutting file in prepartion of making a new video to teach others on how to make pop up cards. Making the video is still a work in progress because making the time with a quiet home is not always easy....lol I know many of you know what I'm talking about. Converting files to .svg and other formats has become rather tedious using my old Windows XP. Pretty soon, all of you will be making your very own pop up card. The little kitty reminds me of our quicny cat. He loves yarn so I rolled a little piece of embroidery thread on a toothpick and added it to the stairs.

Converting Stamps into Cutting Files

Good Saturday everyone! I was asked by a subscriber if I could share with her how to use her many stamps within the Studio software. In other words; could she make cutting files of her stamps. The answer is a happy yes. It's a bit time consuming for all of us whom own mounds of stamps but in the long run it's worth the effort if you enjoy using and color stamps. Some stamps I've colored using Photoshop and then have made these into cutting files. Other stamps I just leave them un-colored, cut them, and then color.

You will need to stamp a piece of cardstock using black ink. I stamp several stamps on one piece of cardstock and them scan them at a high resolution and save them as .png files. You can save them as .jpeg if you wish. After I do this, I save them in a folder I named "Scanned Stamps" so they will be there when I'm ready to convert them to a cutting file.

In this video I used a simple and more complex stamp to walk you through the steps of making your collection of stamps into cutting files. I hope you all find this useful and helpful along your crafty and creative ways.

Below is a screenshot of one of the stamps I colord in Photoshop and made into a cutting file. There is so much we can do with this software and it sure is some kind of crafty fun. Once I finish scanning in all o fmy stamps and have added them to my digital stamps I can save each one as a cutting file when I've done the auto traces. Isn't this exciting to know your stamps can now be put away and you will have loads of stamps right on your computer? Woohoo...for Studio software.

Studio V3 "Standard" and "Advance" cutting

Today I made another video tutorial/chat. It has concerned me that so many seem to have such a dislike for this new software. I discovered many of them did not know of the most recent update of Studio 3.0.343 that addressed their concerns and wishes to have the original cut settings as part of the newest update. Silhouette listens to their customers and added the "Standard" cut features. I have found several uses for the other "Advance" cut settings and wanted to take a little time to briefly show the advantages.

I know when people have been going to the "Help", "Check For Updates" they have not been directed to go to the newest version. If you don't have the Studio V3.0.343 please go here to find the download:

Another recently reported "ssue" was this weeks' "Freebie Tulip" cutting file. Many had concerns that it would not open up in the Studio Legacy V2 version of the software and felt as though this was some kind of conspiracy to force Sihouette users to update to the Studio V3. Silhouette wants their customers to be pleased with the software and realizes there are still some bugs that need to be addressed and would never force their clients to update. The Studio Legacy V2 remains on the download site for those whom are leary of the new software. I have to say; I've had nothing but beautiful cuts usig the newest update of Studio V3 but I am aware of some issues others have found. For them, they may be more comfortable reverting back to the Studio V2.

Now back to that "Freebie Tulip" cutting file....lol. I wrote to support to learn more. As you can see in the video I too had seen this pop-up and wondered what was going on. Here is the email I received from support. I hope this helps to alleviate any concerns about a conspiracy to force us to use the new Studio V3 software.

This has been an unfortunate error. We are truly sorry it has caused any heartache or concern whatsoever. It had never been our intent to offer a file that indicated the need to update the program, nor is it our intent to do so moving forward. All files should continue to be offered in a compatible format for previous versions of the software. Unfortunately, the individual responsible for formatting and posting new content has been out of the office this week and the alternate individual handling the responsibility of posting the new shape provided the image in an updated format by accident. Please trust that this was indeed a genuine oversight and that the image has immediately been corrected.

Anyone who had obtained the newer version of the file but who is running on an older version of the software can simply do the following:

1. Delete the image from the library

2. Go to the library’s “Recycle Bin”

3. Right-click and empty the Recycle Bin (IMPORTANT!)

4. Recover the image anew from the Silhouette Online Store

The adjusted new download will work properly. Again, we appreciate everyone’s understanding that this was a genuine error and we have never had plans to force anyone to update the software who genuinely does not wish to do so. We sincerely desire all to enjoy their crafting experience with the Silhouette!

Video On the Release of Studio 3.0.343

Good day everyone, I know how busy all of you must be with your Easter plans. I too am hopping around like the Easter bunny trying to get things done. Before I go off for the day to run errands I wanted to make a little video about the new Studio V3 updates.

There are still bugs and some issue within this version but it is still a very nice version to use. I made five Easter baskets yesterday using the new Studio V3 and love the way it works.

One of the issues is "Exporting" you "Studio Library". I already reported this issue and it's being worked on. Also, the ability to drag and drop patterns/digi papers from our comuter to  a Studio drawn shape is still an issue. There is a work around for this. I'm adding the steps below:

1. Open up Studio and save a blank document. You can name it something like "Fill File"

2. Close the document then re-open it by going to File, Open Recent and slect your saved "Fill File" .

3. Now draw a shape, open up one of your pattern/ digi papers folder and drag it onto the drawn shape. Tada! you can now drag and drop.

There are other issues reported and I'm not going to comment on all of them today. I just want everyone to know Silhouette realizes this new update is not a "Fix All" but it allows us Studio users to learn and enjoy the many nice features of the new Studio V3.

Working as a Beta Tester for Studio V3

Good day everyone, I am so happy to announce; jut as i expected Sihouette Support and the Silhouette Programmers have been working just as hard as I knew they would be. Myslef and several others have been asked to be Beta testers. I've been really, really busy doing some thorough checks on the list of things they asked for their Beta testers to test. The list is below.

I loved seeing hte old cutting settings back. I know many of you will too. Now we just all have to be patient while we wait for the release of the update. I've found a couple of issues with the Beta version and I know Silhouette Programmers will get these fixed. I'm sure it won't be too long before we are all happy cutters again.
